Data sources
Every listing on this site comes from a source on this page. We do not copy listings from other directories, review sites or map services.
OpenStreetMap
Dump stations and campgrounds from OpenStreetMap, © OpenStreetMap contributors. OpenStreetMap data is available under the Open Database License (ODbL) 1.0. See openstreetmap.org/copyright for details.
- RV dump stations, tagged
amenity=sanitary_dump_station. The current data is a snapshot from 2026-10-21. - Campgrounds and RV parks, tagged
tourism=camp_siteortourism=caravan_site, snapshot from 2026-10-21. We leave out campgrounds that have no name in OpenStreetMap or are taggedaccess=private. Facilities such as toilets, showers, hookups or an on-site dump station are shown only when tagged. - We show a fee, opening hours or water only when OpenStreetMap records it. A station or campground is listed as having no fee only when it is tagged
fee=no. - OpenStreetMap data is kept in its own layer, separate from other sources, and pages that show it carry the attribution “Map data © OpenStreetMap contributors (ODbL)”.
- Download the layer as GeoJSON under the ODbL 1.0, as the license's share-alike terms require.
- To correct a listing, use the “report a correction” link on its page, which opens it in the OpenStreetMap editor.
US Census Bureau
We use two public-domain US Census Bureau files to place each station and campground: the 2024 cartographic boundary file for states to work out its state, and the 2024 Gazetteer place file to name the nearest city (the closest Census place in the same state within 25 miles). Source: U.S. Census Bureau.
Government sources (planned)
We plan to add federal recreation data, such as Recreation.gov's RIDB and the National Park Service API. These are not in use yet. When added, they will be kept as a separate layer from OpenStreetMap, and we will publish facts and links from them, not photos.
State park data may follow, but only for a state whose license terms we have read and recorded here.
